Who runs GeoTrust now
GeoTrust has changed hands more than once, which matters if you are renewing something old. It was bought by VeriSign, moved to Symantec with the rest of VeriSign’s authentication business, and passed to DigiCert when DigiCert acquired Symantec’s website security business in 2017. Certificates ordered today are issued from DigiCert’s systems and chain to DigiCert roots.

Questions we get asked about GeoTrust
Is GeoTrust still its own certificate authority?
No. GeoTrust is a brand owned and operated by DigiCert, which acquired Symantec’s website security business — including GeoTrust — in 2017. Certificates ordered now are issued from DigiCert infrastructure.
Will a GeoTrust certificate still be trusted?
Yes. Certificates issued today chain to DigiCert roots, which are in every major browser and mobile trust store.
I have an old GeoTrust certificate. Can I renew it here?
Yes. It renews normally and the replacement chains to DigiCert roots. Install the intermediate chain we supply with it and nothing else on your server needs to change.
What is the difference between the QuickSSL and True BusinessID lines?
QuickSSL is domain validated: the authority checks that you control the domain and issues quickly. True BusinessID is organisation validated, so the authority also checks that your company exists and writes its name into the certificate.
Can I put it on more than one server?
Yes. Nothing in this list carries a per-server licence.
