Is Thawte still its own certificate authority?
No. Thawte is a brand operated by DigiCert, which acquired Symantec’s website security business — including Thawte — in 2017. Certificates ordered today are issued from DigiCert infrastructure and roots.
Is a Thawte certificate still trusted everywhere?
Yes. Certificates issued now chain to DigiCert roots, which are present in every major browser and mobile operating system.
What is the difference between SSL123 and SSL Web Server?
SSL123 is domain validated, so the authority only checks that you control the domain and can issue quickly. SSL Web Server is organisation validated: the authority also verifies your company and writes its name into the certificate.
Can I renew an old Thawte certificate here?
Yes. It renews normally and the replacement chains to DigiCert roots. Install the intermediate chain supplied with it and nothing else on your server needs changing.
Does it work on more than one server?
Yes. There is no per-server licence on anything in this list.
