Extended Validation Certificate
An Extended Validation Certificate (EV) is a ssl certificate used to secure websites (enable HTTPS) and software that proves the legal entity exist in real world and controlling the website or software package. To sign an Extended Validation certificate a certificate authority (CA) requires verification of the requesting entity's identity and its operational status and entity's control over domain name's DNS file or its hosting server.
Many web browser turn the address bar background color to green, therefore EV Certificates are also called Green Bar Certificates. Web browsers show the verified legal identity's name and country code prominently in their user interface, either before, or instead of, the domain name. In case of software, the verified legal identity's name is displayed to the user by the operating system's pre-installation security check interface (e.g., Microsoft Windows) before proceeding with the installation.
