SSL certificates · RapidSSL · a DigiCert brand
Every RapidSSL certificate, with the price on it
RapidSSL is the budget end of the DigiCert stable: domain validated certificates, issued quickly, for sites that need HTTPS working and nothing more elaborate than that. It is a short list, which is the point — there are three products and the choice between them takes a moment.
- Domain validated only
- Issued in minutes
- A DigiCert brand
- Free unlimited reissues
- 3 products, from $1.99
Who runs RapidSSL
RapidSSL began as GeoTrust’s low-cost brand and followed it through the same ownership changes, ending up with DigiCert when DigiCert acquired Symantec’s website security business in 2017. It has always sold one thing: domain validated certificates at the lowest price the brand could carry. There is no organisation or extended validation in this range, by design.
- Operated by
- DigiCert, Inc.
- History
- GeoTrust’s budget brand → Symantec → DigiCert in 2017
- Validation
- Domain validated only — no company name inside
- Root store
- Trusted in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Android and iOS
Need your company name inside the certificate, or a certificate covering several separate domains? RapidSSL does not sell one. Organisation validated certificates and multi-domain certificates are the pages for that.
- Lowest price guaranteeFind the same certificate cheaper anywhere and we match it.
- Free unlimited reissuesChange a hostname or move host mid-term at no cost.
- Unlimited serversOne file on the load balancer, the app servers and staging.
- Free installation supportcPanel, IIS, Nginx, load balancers and appliances.
What RapidSSL is good for
It does one job cheaply and quickly. Everything below is about being honest on where that job ends.
- HTTPS working this afternoonDomain validation is automatic: answer the email or place a file on the server and the certificate is issued within minutes. No documents, no phone call.
- The padlock is the same padlockA browser shows no difference between this and a certificate costing a hundred times more. Encryption strength comes from your server configuration, not the price.
- A DigiCert root behind a budget priceIssued from current DigiCert infrastructure, so the trust story is the same as the expensive brands in the same family.
- Where it stopsNo company name in the certificate, no multi-domain option, and a smaller warranty. If any of those matter, buy a different shape rather than this one.
Is this the right brand for you?
A brand name in a requirement is worth following. A brand name you picked because you recognised it usually is not, and the second list is a route out rather than a dead end.
Buy from this brand if
- The site runs on one name and takes no payments or logins
- You want the warning gone today with no paperwork
- A host or panel specifically names RapidSSL
- You are replacing an expired certificate and need it live now
Look at this instead if
- You need your registered company name inside the certificateOrganisation validated
- You have several separate domains to coverMulti-domain (SAN)
- You want the cheapest DV certificate on the whole siteCompare every DV certificate

Questions we get asked about RapidSSL
Is RapidSSL trusted by all browsers?
Yes. RapidSSL certificates are issued from DigiCert roots, which are in every major browser and mobile trust store. A visitor sees exactly the same padlock as on a far more expensive certificate.
Why is it so much cheaper than the others?
Because the authority checks less. Domain validation is automated and proves only that you control the domain; there is no company vetting to pay for. The encryption is identical.
Can I get my company name in a RapidSSL certificate?
No. The brand sells domain validated certificates only. If you need your registered company name inside the certificate you need an organisation validated one from another brand on this site.
Does it cover subdomains?
The standard certificate covers your domain and its www only. The wildcard version covers every subdomain at one level under your domain from the same file.
How quickly will it be issued?
Usually within minutes of you completing the domain validation challenge, which is either an email to an address at the domain or a file placed on the web server.
The other authorities we sell
RapidSSL is deliberately the narrowest range on this site. If it does not fit, the nearest alternatives are Sectigo at a similar price with more shapes, or a different validation level entirely.
-
The largest commercial authority there is. Was Comodo CA until 2018.
-
The same certificates under the name they were sold under before the rename.
-
Polish authority in every root store. The cheapest EV and S/MIME on this site.
-
A DigiCert brand. Mid-market, and the name most hosting panels still list.
-
A DigiCert brand, and one of the oldest names in the business.
-
A DigiCert brand. Domain validated only, and priced for one small site. You are here
-
Legacy listings. The business became DigiCert in 2017 and the brand is retired.
-
Malware and PCI scanning from Sectigo. Not an SSL certificate.
Not sure this is the brand you were told to buy?
Send us the requirement — the line from the tender, the audit finding or your host’s documentation — and we will tell you which certificate satisfies it and what the cheapest one that does costs. Including when that is not the brand you are looking at. No obligation and no sales call.
