A publicly trusted certificate for the web interface of an NVR, DVR or IP camera, so you log in over HTTPS without a browser warning. Works with any recorder or camera that can import a certificate, including Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Uniview and most ONVIF devices.

How it works

  1. Order in a minutePick your term, add your details, check out. No documents, no forms.
  2. Prove the domain is yoursApprove one email, or add a DNS record. That is the entire check.
  3. Install and go liveIssued in minutes. Install it yourself, or add our engineer-led installation at checkout.

Putting it on an NVR, DVR or IP camera

  1. Give the recorder a name you ownPick a hostname under your own domain, such as nvr.yourcompany.com, and point it at the recorder in your DNS. Inside the building that can be an internal record; the recorder never has to be reachable from the internet.
  2. Create the request on the recorderLook for HTTPS or Certificate under the network settings (on Hikvision: Configuration → Network → Advanced Settings → HTTPS, or Network Service on newer firmware) and choose to create a certificate request. Use the hostname as the common name and a 2048-bit RSA key, then download the request.
  3. Order and prove the domainPaste the request at checkout, then approve one email or add one DNS record. DNS validation works even when the recorder sits on a private network with no route out.
  4. Import and switch to HTTPSDownload the certificate in PEM format, import it on the same screen, enable HTTPS and save. Open https://nvr.yourcompany.com — by name, not by IP address — and the warning is gone.
  • A private IP address can never be certified192.168.1.64, nvr.local or a bare device name cannot appear on any publicly trusted certificate. Neither can a name on the camera maker’s own DDNS service, because you cannot prove you own their domain.
  • Some firmware is fussyOn some recorders the request option only appears after other TLS settings are changed, and some firmware rejects an imported certificate, or has no request option at all. If yours does, create the key and request on a PC with OpenSSL and import the certificate and key together, if the device accepts a key. If you get stuck, add the installation option and an engineer will do it with you.
  • Plan on a fresh import about twice a yearSince 15 March 2026 no public certificate may be valid for more than 200 days. Your term covers free reissues, so before each certificate expires you reissue and import the new one. A free 90-day certificate would mean doing that four or five times a year by hand, because recorders cannot renew themselves.
  • Several cameras or recorders? Each device needs its name on the certificate. With more than two or three, a wildcard certificate for *.cam.yourcompany.com covers every one of them with a single file. The vendor’s phone app usually connects through the vendor’s own cloud service and does not use this certificate; it protects the web interface.

Securing NAS boxes, hypervisors or management cards too? See certificates for NAS, consoles and cameras.

Finish the job

  • Let an engineer install it

Pick your server at checkout and one of our engineers installs the certificate, checks the chain and confirms the padlock. No test runs on your production box.

  • Check what you already have

Answer three questions about how many domains you need to cover and whether your company name has to appear in the certificate, and the finder narrows it down. Or just ask an engineer.
