Certum is operated by Asseco Data Systems in Poland, part of one of the larger software groups in Europe. Is Certum trusted by browsers?

Yes, in all of them. Certum roots are in the Microsoft, Mozilla, Apple, Google and Android trust stores and have been for years. Trust is decided by the root store, not by how well known the brand is.

Why is Certum so much cheaper?

Brand recognition, not quality. Certum is a European authority that is not widely marketed in English-speaking countries, so it competes on price. The audits, the validation standards and the browser trust are the same.

Is the EV certificate a real EV certificate?

Yes. Extended validation is defined by the CA/Browser Forum and every authority issuing it must follow the same checks on your company’s legal, physical and operational existence. There is no cheaper variety of EV.

What does the S/MIME range actually do?

It signs email so that the recipient can prove it came from you and was not altered, and it can encrypt email so that only the recipient can read it. Some of the same certificates also sign PDFs and other documents.

How long does a Certum certificate take to issue?

Domain validated certificates are usually issued shortly after you answer the validation challenge. Organisation and extended validation require checks on the company and typically take a few working days.
